Mirena IUD Lawsuits
In Mirena IUD lawsuits, victims of this medical device may be able to recover just compensation for their physical, emotional, and financial damages. Mirena is an IUD (intrauterine device) which is implanted in a woman’s body to prevent pregnancy. While Bayer, the maker of Mirena, has marketed the device as a safe and worry-free form of birth control, a number of women have opted to file Mirena lawsuits after suffering serious injury, infertility, or surgery to remove the device. If you or a woman you love has suffered as a result of Mirena, a lawyer from our firm can help you pursue the full compensation you deserve.
We invite you to contact us today for a free legal consultation. We operate on a contingency fee basis, so our national clients don’t pay us a penny unless they recover compensation. To learn more about Mirena lawsuits, call us at 800-849-8072 or fill out the form to the right.
Problems with Mirena IUD
While Mirena is marketed as a safe and hassle-free form of birth control, a number of women have suffered serious, debilitating, and potentially permanent injury after implantation with this potentially dangerous medical device. Roughly 2 in 1000 women who received a Mirena IUD have reported uterine perforation, which could free the device to travel to other parts of the abdomen and puncture the intestines or bladder. In addition to organ perforation, users of Mirena IUDs have reported the following serious side effects and complications:
- Birth defects
- Intestinal obstructions
- Erosion of the vagina
- Embedment of Mirena in the uterus
- Pelvic inflammatory disease
- Loss of libido
- Breast pain or tenderness
Mirena Lawsuit Information
In 2010, the FDA sent a warning letter to Bayer, the maker of Mirena, regarding “Mirena parties”, a live consumer-directed program under which Mirena representatives traveled to women’s homes to promote the device. At these events, a representative working with Bayer would follow a script to entice women to use Mirena. In one script our lawyers have access to, phrases such as “simple ways to reconnect with ourselves and our partners,” “more likely to be more intimate,” and “look and feel great” appear. In the FDA’s letter, the agency warns that these representatives “misleadingly overstate the proven efficacy of Mirena”, fail to warn of potential Mirena side effects, and that they make claims that cannot be supported with evidence. While Bayer stopped these parties soon after receiving the warning letter, our Mirena lawyers believe that many women who selected Mirena may not have been made adequately aware of Mirena side effects and complications after being misled at these events. We also believe that women who did not attend such an event could still have been misled into selecting Mirena as their form of birth control as a result of Bayer’s aggressive and negligent advertising of the device. In a Mirena lawsuit, we can help these victims recover full and just compensation for medical bills, pain and suffering, loss of consortium, and other damages.
