Zimmer Kinectiv Hip Lawyers
Zimmer Kinectiv hip lawyers from the national personal injury firm of Kelley Bernheim Dolinsky, LLC have been successfully defending the rights of patients harmed by potentially dangerous medical devices for many years, and at this time we are investigating multiple medical product liability lawsuits on behalf of victims of the Zimmer Kinectiv and other modular hip replacement systems, including the Stryker Rejuvenate and the Stryker ABG II. If you or someone you love has suffered pain, injury, early implant failure or other complications after being implanted with a Zimmer Kinectiv hip, you may be eligible to recover significant financial compensation for your damages.
Problems with the Zimmer Kinectiv Hip
The Zimmer Kinectiv hip is a modular hip implant, which means that surgeons may select from a range of neck components when implanting the device to customize the fit according to each patient’s gender, size, and proportions. According to Zimmer, this customization should allow for a more stable and flexible hip, superior range of motion, and a longer life for the implant itself. However, while most hip implants are expected to function well for at least 15 years, a growing number of patients fitted with the Zimmer Kinectiv hip are reporting implant failure just a few years after they undergo implantation. This means that these patients must undergo hip implant revision surgery, which is often more painful and damaging than the initial operation and can burden patients with extensive medical bills.
In addition to premature failure, patients who have been implanted with a Zimmer Kinectiv hip are also reporting serious and often debilitating injuries caused by the metal-on-metal construction of the modular neck joint. We are aware of multiple cases where friction at this joint has caused tiny shards of metal to be released from the device and enter the patient’s blood stream. This can lead to metallosis, a very serious and potentially fatal form of metal poisoning. Additional injuries and complications linked to the Zimmer Kinectiv hip include:
- Allergic reactions
- Loss of hearing
- Heart damage
- Organ failure
- Bone and tissue death (necrosis)
The Zimmer Kinectiv lawyers at our firm understand the physical, emotional, and financial suffering that burdens patients and their families when they become unwitting victims of dangerous or defective medical devices. We believe it is both our duty and our honor to defend the rights of these victims as we fight to ensure that they are fully and justly compensated for their damages.
Zimmer Taper M/L with Kinectiv Hip Recall
On June 8, 2015, the FDA issued an urgent Class I recall for some lots of the Zimmer M/L with Kinectiv Technology Femoral Stems and Necks hip replacement system. In addition to known issues with hips equipped with Zimmer Kinectiv technology, now patients who have been implanted with the recalled Zimmer hips may be at additional risk for serious injury or even death due to contamination with an unnamed manufacturing residue. The recalled Zimmer hips were distributed between March 31, 2015 and April 20, 2015 and some may already have been surgically implanted in patients. In a related Safety Alert, the FDA states that this recall, which is the most urgent class of recall the FDA issues, was put out to address the potential for “serious adverse issues including allergic reactions, pain, infections, or death.”
